Black Static (formerly known as The Third Alternative) is
considered to be one of the world's most original magazines, publishing
an exciting mix of extraordinary new fiction, stunning artwork, interesting
features and provocative comment. Often transcending the genre divide
between science fiction/fantasy/horror and mainstream literature, it has
earned an unprecedented amount of honourable mentions and reprints in
both genre and non-genre Year's Best/New Writing anthologies. Black
Static/The Third Alternative has won several awards, most recently
the prestigious British Fantasy Awards for 'Best Magazine' and 'Best Short
Story' (Martin Simpson's 'Dancing About Architecture', from TTA11).
Black Static publishes many well-known authors but we also pride ourselves on introducing a great many exciting new talents, several of whom we have published for the very first time anywhere.
